Restorative Care

Tooth-Colored Dental Fillings in South Philadelphia

Cavities happen — even to patients who brush and floss diligently. When they do, the goal is to treat them promptly, comfortably, and in a way that leaves your tooth looking as natural as possible. At Pera Dentistry & Aesthetics, we use tooth-colored composite fillings that blend seamlessly with your natural tooth color, restoring both function and appearance in a single appointment.
Gone are the days of dark metal fillings that stand out every time you open your mouth. Modern composite fillings are durable, natural-looking, and require less removal of healthy tooth structure than older amalgam alternatives.
Filling Lifespan

How Long Do Fillings Last?

With proper care, composite fillings can last 7 to 15 years or more. Their longevity depends on the size and location of the filling, your oral hygiene habits, and whether you grind your teeth. We check the condition of existing fillings at every routine exam and will let you know if any need to be replaced or updated.

Treating Cavities Early Saves Teeth

The earlier a cavity is treated, the simpler and less invasive the treatment. A small cavity that requires only a filling today can become a large cavity requiring a crown — or worse, a root canal — if left untreated. This is one of the most compelling reasons not to delay dental care when a problem is identified.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Fillings

Do fillings hurt?
The procedure itself should not be painful. We administer local anesthesia before beginning, so you’ll feel pressure and movement but not pain. After the anesthesia wears off, you may experience mild soreness or sensitivity for a day or two, which is normal and resolves quickly.
Many cavities cause no symptoms in their early stages, which is why regular exams and X-rays are so important. Signs that you may have a cavity include tooth sensitivity to sweets, hot, or cold; a visible hole or dark spot on a tooth; or pain when biting. If you notice any of these, schedule an appointment promptly.
Early-stage demineralization — sometimes called a pre-cavity — can sometimes be reversed with fluoride and improved oral hygiene. Once a true cavity has formed through the enamel, however, it will not heal on its own and requires treatment. The longer it’s left untreated, the larger and more complex the repair becomes.
In most cases, we can complete multiple fillings in a single visit, particularly if they’re in the same area of the mouth. The main limiting factor is patient comfort — extensive numbing on one side of your mouth at a time is typically the most practical approach. We’ll discuss what makes sense for your situation.
Absolutely. Composite resin is color-matched to your tooth before placement, and the final result is polished to match the sheen of natural enamel. Most people — and even most dentists — can’t identify composite fillings on visual exam without probing. The result is a seamless, natural repair.
Yes, most dental insurance plans cover fillings, though the coverage percentage depends on your plan. Basic restorative procedures like fillings are typically covered at 70% to 80% after your deductible. We’ll review your benefits with you before treatment so there are no surprises.
