Our Story

What to Expect With Dentures

There is an adjustment period with any new denture. Eating and speaking may feel different at first, and minor soreness as gums adapt is normal. We schedule follow-up appointments to check the fit and make adjustments — getting your denture feeling comfortable is an ongoing process, not a one-and-done.
Over time, the shape of your jaw and gum tissue changes — particularly without the stimulation of natural tooth roots. This means dentures may need periodic relining or replacement every five to eight years. Implant-supported options help mitigate this bone loss.

Types of Dentures We Offer

Complete Dentures
0 1
Full dentures replace an entire arch of missing teeth — upper, lower, or both. They rest on the gum tissue and are held in place through natural suction and, if needed, dental adhesive. Complete dentures can be placed once all remaining teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed.
Partial Dentures
0 2
When some natural teeth remain, a partial denture fills in the gaps. Partials typically attach to the remaining natural teeth using metal clasps or precision attachments, and the denture base is matched to the color of your gum tissue. They’re removable for cleaning and can be adjusted as your dental needs change.
Immediate Dentures
0 3
Immediate dentures are fabricated before your teeth are extracted and placed on the same day as extraction — so you’re never without teeth. They typically serve as a temporary solution while your gums heal, after which your final denture is made for an optimal fit.
Implant-Supported Dentures
0 4
For patients who want greater stability and permanence, implant-supported dentures are anchored to dental implants rather than resting on the gum tissue. This eliminates slipping and allows for much better chewing function. They can be designed as either removable (snap-on) or fully fixed (see our All-On-X page).

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Dentures

How long does it take to get dentures?
The process typically takes four to six weeks from your initial impressions to receiving your final dentures, with several fitting appointments in between. If extractions are needed first, timing depends on healing. Immediate dentures can be placed the same day as extraction as a temporary solution.
Modern dentures are designed to look remarkably natural. The teeth are selected to complement your facial structure, skin tone, and the appearance you’d like to achieve. Most people are pleasantly surprised by how natural well-made dentures look.
Most dental professionals recommend removing dentures at night. This gives your gum tissue a chance to rest and recover, helps prevent bone resorption, and allows you to properly clean the prosthetic. Soaking overnight also helps maintain the denture’s shape and hygiene.
There is an adjustment period during which certain foods may be challenging. Over time, most denture wearers adapt and can eat a varied diet. Very hard or sticky foods remain difficult with conventional dentures. Implant-supported options offer significantly better chewing function if eating normally is a top priority.
Denture costs vary based on the type of denture and materials used. Most dental insurance plans cover partial or full dentures as a major restorative benefit. We’ll review your specific coverage and provide a clear estimate before treatment begins. Financing through CareCredit and Sunbit is also available.
